Thinking of July 4th ...

I can hardly believe it is the end of June ~ July 4th is right around the corner ~ Summer is going by quickly ~ This picture is of an Americana Rag Doll I have in my upstairs office ~ I have quite a few Americana items, I guess the love of "Country" decorating has always stayed with me ~ It speaks "Home" to me ... What decorating style makes you feel this way?

  1. Lovely doll Kristine! Such a nice face :)
I have to say my favorite season for decorating is New Years. Until I got married, I used to go with my father to buy a Christmas tree, it was our tradition. But for the last few years I decided to "go green" and we have an artificial tree now. But the feeling is the same - I love New Year!

  2. Thank you, Sonja ~ I have to be honest, I was never a big "Doll Lover" as a child, but I do like Rag Dolls now - I like the tradition you had with your Dad. I also like the idea of going "Green", we also have been using our Artificial tree and they look just as nice ... Happy New Year, Sonja ... A Year of New Friendships :)

Love Story in Burlington, VT ...

It started the morning I decided to visit Muddy Waters (Coffee House) in Burlington, Vermont. I was told by the locals that if I was looking for a quiet place to write and enjoy a good cup of java, this was the place. I entered into a few different level rooms containing booths, cozy benches and chairs. After ordering an Iced Machiatto, I settled into a nice corner bench adjacent to a bookshelf. It was quiet, the perfect seat to get some reading done. My reason for spending a quiet morning here was to work through a few more chapters in The Artist's Way. (Julia Cameron's ~ Guide to Inspire Artists). Upon looking around, I noticed that there was a small, rolled up piece of paper tucked away in the brick wall behind me. At first, I was not sure whether to take it out and read it, or not. Perhaps I have seen too many "Candid - Punked" like shows, and someone was watching my every move. Pushing these paranoid thoughts aside, I reached over, read it and I was elated...

All about Hope ...

I thought this image was appropriate for how I am feeling today. I seemed to have gotten a second wind with being creative this year. I am excited to tell you about my new treasure in writing. It is a newfound website (that I found in a column in Oprah's Nov 2011 magazine) called 750Words.com. This site follows the steps of Julia Cameron's The Artists Way. It helps you work towards a better writing style. It encourages you to write 750 words a day. This is approximately 3 typewritten pages of words. I am finding it easier to pick a theme (from Patti Digh's LIFE IS A VERB book - Thanks, Patti!) to help create daily themes. Please cheer me on to continue this daily ritual.  Have you started a new routine that you would like to share?
