Summer Update ...

It has been a short while, so I thought I would catch you up on what has been happening!

Summer began with a few major surgeries (and worries) in our family. I am happy to say we are on the other side, observing small steps to better health. We still have a few more hurdles to go, but we are able to see the finish line. We are so grateful!

In the chaos of it all, I have tried to "stay in the moment". I have been taking a few photos to notice the simple things around me to keep me grounded.

I have also been making an effort to "up" the number of books I read this year. My current count is 16. I have set a goal of "50" books by year end. My new found love is audio books. I have to admit, I was the one that said they would never be a good fit for me. I stand corrected. I realize there is a debate on if audio books are "really reading" compared to holding a physical book - But neither here or there, it is an enjoyable way to soak in a great story!
Highly Recommended!

How has Summer been treating you?

I have also returned back to Twitter (you can find me a@DubuqueOrtega) and Instagram (@kphotogal2) if you would like to follow me there, as well.

Love Story in Burlington, VT ...

It started the morning I decided to visit Muddy Waters (Coffee House) in Burlington, Vermont. I was told by the locals that if I was looking for a quiet place to write and enjoy a good cup of java, this was the place. I entered into a few different level rooms containing booths, cozy benches and chairs. After ordering an Iced Machiatto, I settled into a nice corner bench adjacent to a bookshelf. It was quiet, the perfect seat to get some reading done. My reason for spending a quiet morning here was to work through a few more chapters in The Artist's Way. (Julia Cameron's ~ Guide to Inspire Artists). Upon looking around, I noticed that there was a small, rolled up piece of paper tucked away in the brick wall behind me. At first, I was not sure whether to take it out and read it, or not. Perhaps I have seen too many "Candid - Punked" like shows, and someone was watching my every move. Pushing these paranoid thoughts aside, I reached over, read it and I was elated...

All about Hope ...

I thought this image was appropriate for how I am feeling today. I seemed to have gotten a second wind with being creative this year. I am excited to tell you about my new treasure in writing. It is a newfound website (that I found in a column in Oprah's Nov 2011 magazine) called 750Words.com. This site follows the steps of Julia Cameron's The Artists Way. It helps you work towards a better writing style. It encourages you to write 750 words a day. This is approximately 3 typewritten pages of words. I am finding it easier to pick a theme (from Patti Digh's LIFE IS A VERB book - Thanks, Patti!) to help create daily themes. Please cheer me on to continue this daily ritual.  Have you started a new routine that you would like to share?
