The Special Hat ...

I often think how certain songs, certain books, or even movies represent a certain time if our lives ... This picture was taken for an online photography course I am currently taking, but I wanted to post it here on my blog - It is a special hat to me because it was bought the weekend we got engaged - So anything having to do with Waterville Valley (NH - Ski Resort Area) always grabs my attention ... Do you have a certain song that reminds you of a special time in your life? Or a book? Or an clothing item?

  1. I have a special TV show - "The X files" - I was absolutely mad about it at the time I met my husband. So mad, that he used to call me Scully. And I'm still mad about anything that has to do with aliens and strange phenomenon. Every time I see a rerun of that show, or an actor, I remember the time we started dating... :)

  2. I wish I would have watched the X-Files - I think I would have enjoyed this show - I love that your Hubby used to call you, Scully. I love knicknames! So you must have liked the movie PHENOMENON with John Travolta? If you have not seen it, you need to - It is a good movie! I believe you mentioned you liked Ghost Whisperer, and I also enjoyed this show ... They have been showing repeats and I am realizing I missed alot more than I originally thought ...

Love Story in Burlington, VT ...

It started the morning I decided to visit Muddy Waters (Coffee House) in Burlington, Vermont. I was told by the locals that if I was looking for a quiet place to write and enjoy a good cup of java, this was the place. I entered into a few different level rooms containing booths, cozy benches and chairs. After ordering an Iced Machiatto, I settled into a nice corner bench adjacent to a bookshelf. (Julia Cameron's ~ Guide to Inspire Artists). Upon looking around, I noticed that there was a small, rolled up piece of paper tucked away in the brick wall behind me. At first, I was not sure whether to take it out and read it, or not. Perhaps I have seen too many "Candid - Punked" like shows, and someone was watching my every move. Pushing these paranoid thoughts aside, I reached over, read it and I was elated...

Picture Frame Friday ...

So, These are the benefits of having your own blog - Usually, On Fridays it is Poetry Friday but I wanted to change things up a bit. I thought I would write regarding a question I have been asked quite frequently these days. How do I decide the a photo is worth taking? Or how do I know that it will be a good shot? I came across this photograph (above) and thought this would be perfect to help me explain. Many times I have an imaginary frame in my mind of what I want my photo to look like. Off to the left a bit, off to the right, etc - I also tape the LCD display before I go out shooting. I learned this years ago, and it has really improved my work.  (It keeps me shooting - An average shoot on any given day is approximately 100 shots.)This way, I do not waste time checking photos. It forces you to save that work for when you return home. This way, you are not deleting pictures that may please you on the computer, but not in the camera. Hoping these tricks and tips help you,...
