Create is my Word ...

CREATE ~ is the word I chose for 2012, as many of you already know. I hope to CREATE more with my photography and writing this year. Breakthrough some fears, and share my work with others.

I hope to write for someone other than myself - Perhaps I could write a column (as I did years ago, and loved it!) OR write more poetry to be published OR get my photography submitted to a gift shop to sell as stationery ... I am thinking of new ways to make this happen ... New ways to CREATE.

What does a New Year make you think of? What do you hope for in 2012?

  9. ' CREATE ' - The perfect word for what I'm wanting to do this year.

Deep down I know that as I'm ageing so fast, looking down the barrell at 70, ( I'm 63 this past December ) making art ( specifically painting portraits ) could be my salvation.

For about a year I've been painting portraits. Before that it was art journals and sewing Quilts and clothing.

I've never made any money, or recieved recognition beyond family and friends.

There's a term for what ails me : ' Fear of the Market Place '

I keep saying, " This year will be the time to get my portraits out of the art room- somewhere other than facebook." Not to say there's anything wrong with facebook.

To end, I want to tell you how much I appreciate your support.
Also- This blog is comforting; you're a talented writer and photographer; you're kind and generous- Happy to have you in my life.

Love Story in Burlington, VT ...

It started the morning I decided to visit Muddy Waters (Coffee House) in Burlington, Vermont. I was told by the locals that if I was looking for a quiet place to write and enjoy a good cup of java, this was the place. I entered into a few different level rooms containing booths, cozy benches and chairs. After ordering an Iced Machiatto, I settled into a nice corner bench adjacent to a bookshelf. It was quiet, the perfect seat to get some reading done. My reason for spending a quiet morning here was to work through a few more chapters in The Artist's Way. (Julia Cameron's ~ Guide to Inspire Artists). Upon looking around, I noticed that there was a small, rolled up piece of paper tucked away in the brick wall behind me. At first, I was not sure whether to take it out and read it, or not. Perhaps I have seen too many "Candid - Punked" like shows, and someone was watching my every move. Pushing these paranoid thoughts aside, I reached over, read it and I was elated...

All about Hope ...

I thought this image was appropriate for how I am feeling today. I seemed to have gotten a second wind with being creative this year. I am excited to tell you about my new treasure in writing. It is a newfound website (that I found in a column in Oprah's Nov 2011 magazine) called 750Words.com. This site follows the steps of Julia Cameron's The Artists Way. It helps you work towards a better writing style. It encourages you to write 750 words a day. This is approximately 3 typewritten pages of words. I am finding it easier to pick a theme (from Patti Digh's LIFE IS A VERB book - Thanks, Patti!) to help create daily themes. Please cheer me on to continue this daily ritual.  Have you started a new routine that you would like to share?
