Bird in Paradise ...

Today is a beautiful, non-humid, sunny day! I love days like this. I chose to post this pic of St Martin's Tropical Bird for a few reasons - First, I remember how cool and crisp it was when I took this photo. She was lovely, I would look to see every morning, if she was perched in her nest.

Secondly, I took the advice of a wonderful creative friend - To post this photo on my blog!

Enjoy the day, Everyone!

  1. Is there anything sweeter than this little creature? It's amazing how you managed to capture this bird Kristine! Fantastic photo! The only thing is - your photos make me want to go on holiday, and I can't go right now :( But, at least I get a bit of holiday spirit through your photos! The sun, the sea, warm weather...Nice! :)

  2. Thanks, Sonja ~ I called her "My Little Friend" all week ~ I would look for her every morning when we were heading to breakfast. I wanted to get a picture of her, but she was so high up in the tree - I was not sure how this would come out - Sometimes I get lucky ... Not always ... I am glad you are enjoying this photography journey with me ... Like a Sister that lives far afar ... So glad we connected!

Love Story in Burlington, VT ...

It started the morning I decided to visit Muddy Waters (Coffee House) in Burlington, Vermont. I was told by the locals that if I was looking for a quiet place to write and enjoy a good cup of java, this was the place. I entered into a few different level rooms containing booths, cozy benches and chairs. After ordering an Iced Machiatto, I settled into a nice corner bench adjacent to a bookshelf. It was quiet, the perfect seat to get some reading done. My reason for spending a quiet morning here was to work through a few more chapters in The Artist's Way. (Julia Cameron's ~ Guide to Inspire Artists). Upon looking around, I noticed that there was a small, rolled up piece of paper tucked away in the brick wall behind me. At first, I was not sure whether to take it out and read it, or not. Perhaps I have seen too many "Candid - Punked" like shows, and someone was watching my every move. Pushing these paranoid thoughts aside, I reached over, read it and I was elated...

Picture Frame Friday ...

So, These are the benefits of having your own blog - Usually, On Fridays it is Poetry Friday but I wanted to change things up a bit. I thought I would write regarding a question I have been asked quite frequently these days. How do I decide the a photo is worth taking? Or how do I know that it will be a good shot? I came across this photograph (above) and thought this would be perfect to help me explain. Many times I have an imaginary frame in my mind of what I want my photo to look like. Off to the left a bit, off to the right, etc - I also tape the LCD display before I go out shooting. I learned this years ago, and it has really improved my work.  (It keeps me shooting - An average shoot on any given day is approximately 100 shots.)This way, I do not waste time checking photos. It forces you to save that work for when you return home. This way, you are not deleting pictures that may please you on the computer, but not in the camera. Hoping these tricks and tips help you,...
